Julia Potter is an emerging Melbourne-based screen and art music composer.

Inspired to write music surrounding the human existence and experience, Julia seeks to create music which transports the listener to a suspended reality and moment in time.

Her work has been performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Omega Ensemble, Ensemble Offspring, The Australian Youth Orchestra, The Penny Quartet, Syzygy Ensemble, and Claire Edwardes for Musica Viva Australia, amongst others. Her music for documentary Acts for the Invisible was featured at Sydney Film and Melbourne International Film Festival.

As of 2023 Julia is a Represented Artist with the Australian Music Centre. Julia graduated with a Masters degree at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) in 2021 specialising in film music composition, studying with Cameron Patrick. In 2018, Julia completed a Bachelor of Music with Honours at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, studying with Stuart Greenbaum, Elliot Gyger and Katy Abbott.

In 2022 Julia partook in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Cybec 21st Century Australian Composers’ Program and the Omega Ensemble CoLAB Program for young composers. In December 2021 she took part in the in the Ensemble Offspring Hatched Academy.

In 2019 Julia was the recipient of the Melbourne Recital Centre/Melbourne Conservatorium of Music graduate commission and 2017 recipient of the Esther Rofe Composition Award.
